The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) held its 63rd State Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend in Auburn, Alabama. UMS Wright Preparatory School dominated the team standings in the girls’ Class 1A-5A Division, as they won by 112 points. In the 6A-7A Division, Bob Jones High School topped the team standings with 321 total points.

Class 1A-5A Division Recap:
Senior Clarke Doyle, a University of Toledo commit, led the way for UMS Wright Prep as she won both of her individual events and contributed to two winning relays. Doyle clocked a 1:55.55 in the 200 free and a 5:06.04 in the 500 free, winning both.
Tallassee junior Macey Stewart was another double-event winner. She took first in the 100 free by over 4 seconds, clocking a new personal best time of 50.79. She also won the 100 backstroke in a new 1A-5A record time of 55.31. The previous record was set by her last year at this meet, meaning this swim personal best time by a few tenths.
UMS Wright Prep swept all three relays, winning each by about a second. Doyle had the fastest splits of the 400 freestyle relay with a 53.91, while Marlee Moore from Bayside Academy clocked the fastest split in the 200 freestyle relay with a 24.48. Moore took second in the 50 free individual event to Aurelie Walker, who clocked a 24.04.
In diving, UMS Wright Prep swept the podium, led by sophomore Mae Elliott who won with a final score of 332.35. Her teammates Laura Beth Montgomery and Jullian Ngando followed with scores of 306.75 and 257.15, respectively.

Class 6A-7A Division Recap:
Bob Jones senior Samantha Chan captured wins in both the 200 IM and 100 fly, as well as contributed to two winning relays. She won the 100 fly with a 54.81, almost two seconds ahead of her younger sister, Abby Chan (56.38). S. Chan won the 200 IM by a two second margin, clocking a 2:05.87 to touch the wall first.
Lena Amare was also a double-event winner, as she took first in the 200 free and 100 free. She won the 200 free by nearly 3 seconds, posting a 1:51.81, just a few hundredths off her personal best. She also won the 100 free in a personal best time of 50.62, beating 2nd-place Sarah Bush by over a second.
Bob Jones High School won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, while Opelika High School won the 200 freestyle relay. S.Chan posted the fastest split of the meet in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking a 52.12 anchor. Amare posted the quickest split in the 200 freestyle relay as the anchor of Fairhope’s team with a 23.17.
Huntsville 8th grader Taylor Ralph won the diving portion of the meet, putting up a score of 350.25 in finals. St. Paul’s Episcopal junior Reagan Costello took 2nd (308.75), while Hoover’s Lucy Benoit was 3rd (296.75).
