Solid performances kept Drury women and Indy men at the top of the leaderboard after two days of competition, but their margins narrowed.
The Drury women picked up the first win of the day thanks to a 54.14 100 fly by Rafaela Raurich. Indy’s Johanna Buys (54.77), Andrea Paaske (54.98), and Julia Magierowska (55.46) touched 2-3-4. Raurich just missed out on a second conference title in the 200 free, losing by .8 to Indy’s Krystal Caylor, 1:49.21 to 1:50.17. Lindenwood placed four in the top-8 of the 200 free: Beata Maruszczyk (4th), Joselle Mensah (6th), Meredith Riegler (7th), and Camilla Rimmereide (8th).
Indy went 1-3-4 in the 400 IM behind Marizel Van Jaarsveld (4:16.33), Andrea Gomez (4:18.58) and Kaitlyn McCoy (4:22.06). Defending NCAA champion and meet record-holder Bec Cross of Drury was runner-up with 4:18.50. In 3-meter diving, Katie Werkema of Lindenwood scored 457.90 to win by 28.60 points. Indy’s Magierowska (55.42), Van Jaarsveld (1:00.30), Paaske (54.61) and Buys (49.16) crushed the field in the 400 medley relay, going 3:39.49, or 2.5 seconds faster than their fourth-place finish at NCAAs last year.
McKendree came out swinging for the fences in the men’s 100 fly, going 1-3-5 with strong performances from 2021 NCAA bronze medalist and GLVC meet record-holder Gregg Lichinsky (47.24), Jack Lustig (47.78), and Lio Perez (47.90). Indy newcomer Cedric Buessing earned his second conference title in as many days, going 3:48.25 in the 400 IM after winning the 1000 free on Wednesday. Missouri S&T’s Andy Huffman was runner-up (3:54.20), holding off Lewis’ Mariano Sosa (3:54.98) over the final 100 yards. All-American Matheo Mateos-Mongelos of Lindenwood won the B final with 3:51.67 after placing 16th in prelims with 4:03.54.
The 200 free had a similar outcome with NCAA defending champion Karol Ostrowski of Drury grabbing the 16th spot in prelims with 1:39.58, then winning the B final with 1:37.49. Meanwhile, the conference title went to McKendree’s Xander Skinner in 1:35.30. He cleared the field by over a body length, as Ruben van Leeuwen of Lewis (1:36.60) and Connor Wiedemeier of Lewis (1:37.33) placed second and third. Skinner was back in the next event, helping the Bearcats win the 400 medley relay. DaVante Carey (48.18), Filipe Pinheiro (52.76), Lichinsky (46.25), and Skinner (42.44) stopped the clock in 3:09.63, just a touch faster than their second-place finish at NCAAs last year. Indy (Jeron Thompson, Jan Zuchowicz, Kael Yorke, and Joao Silva) edged Drury (Mikita Tsmyh, Davi Mourao, Felipe Zapata, and Ostrowski), 3:10.10 to 3:10.22, for second place.

Just gonna mention that Claire Curzan just swam a 49.61 100 back, a 49.24 100 fly, and 21.4/46.76 free relay splits. The back would have won 2021 NCAAs and the fly taken second.
