Day Three prelims session will consist of heats of the men’s 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 200 fly. Diving prelims will take place in the early afternoon. Nova S’eastern freshman Luca Alessandrini comes in with the fastest seed time in the 500 (4:20.46), but he’s only half a second ahead of Rollins sophomore Ward Lockhart (4:20.94), who ran away with the 1000 free title on Wednesday.

Ben Sampson of Colorado Mesa leads the qualifiers in the 100 back with 46.36. It’s a crowded field with the top seven entrants all seeded under 47 seconds. Indy has the top two 100 breaststrokers of the season: Liki Prema (52.76) and Jan Zuchowicz (52.99) are the only sub-53s entered in the meet. Meet record-holder and defending champion Alex Kunert of Queens leads the field in the 200 fly (1:43.92)

Matheus Laperriere of Colorado Mesa dominated heat 1 of the 500 free in 4:30.80, winning by three body lengths. Mohamed Hegazy from Queens improved his seed time by 4.5 seconds to win heat 2 in 4:25.00. Gavin Moak of Drury was second with 4:26.92, a two-second drop from his entry time.

Luke Erwee of Queens (4:24.50) topped Indy’s Cedric Buessing (4:25.27) and Anisse Djaballah of Drury (4:25.80) in heat 3.

Ward Lockhart of Rollins, the 1000 champion on Wednesday, came from behind to snatch the heat 4 victory away from Florida Southern’s Elder Oliveira, who had led the whole race. Lockhart was home in 24.77, more than 2 seconds faster than Oliveira. Wingate’s Miguel Marcos touched third (4:24.15), thanks to a 1.8-second drop, and Jon Katzenbach of Grand Valley (4:25.32) was fourth.

The final heat went to Nova S’estern’s Luca Alessandrini in 4:23.81. He was the top seed in this event with 4:20.46. Victor Rosado of Oklahoma Christian (4:24.56) improved his entry time by 1.3 seconds to finish second, half a second ahead of Indy’s Sebastian Wenk (4:25.16).

Men’s 100 Backstroke – Prelims

Jayden Cole of Simon Fraser kicked off heats of the 100 back with a 47.66, improving his seed time by nearly a second. Mikita Tsmyh of Drury followed in heat 2 with 46.64. Behind him, Queens’ Finn Howard (46.87) beat Delta State’s Emanuel Fava (47.31) for second place.

It was Florida Tech’s Daniel Aizenberg who won heat 3 with a .9-second drop to just touch out Florida Southern’s Brandon Dyck (46.70) with 46.64. Tim Stollings of Findlay (46.97) placed third.

The final heat went to Alexander Bauch of Queens in a crowded finish with 46.78. Karol Ostrowski of Drury (46.81) and Colorado Mesa’s Ben Sampson (46.95), and Drury’s Nathan Bighetti (47.28) were right behind Bauch.

Ludwig Mueller of Florida Southern eked out a heat 1 win over Delta State’s Savio Ragonesi, 54.51 to 54.02. Both dropped from their seed times.

Matteo Zampese of Florida Southern improved his entry time by .3 to win heat 2 ahead of Filipe Pinheiro of McKendree (53.46), Gerald Brown of Lindenwood (53.80), and Balazs Berecz from Queens (53.94).

In heat 3, Indy’s Jan Zuchowicz (52.68) took .3 off his seed time to edge Florida Southern’s Ludo Viberti (52.80) who dropped .5. Drury picked up third and fourth places with Davi Mourao (53.43) and Caleb Carlson (53.60).

The final heat went to top-seeded Liki Prema of Indy in 52.84. Oklahoma Christian’s JT Amrein went 53.00 for second place. Drury’s Dawid Nowodworski touched out Juan Daniel Garcia from Findlay, 53.41 to 53.45, for third.

Men’s 200 Butterfly – Prelims

Lindenwood’s Patryk Winiatowski nailed a best-by-2.3-seconds 1:47.50 to win a three-swimmer heat 1 and earn a finals slot for tonight. Yannick Plasil of Queens went 1:44.59 to win heat 2 by half a body length. Drury’s Andrew Rodriguez (1:45.26) improved his seed time by half a second to touch second. Andy Huffman of Missouri S&T just touched out Jakub Kwasny from Saint Leo, 1:47.11 to 1:47.25, for third.

McKendree’s Jack Lustig posted the top time in heat 3, going 1:44.79 to edge Delta State’s Federico Bracco (1:45.06). James Brown of Drury just held off Simon Fraser’s Collyn Gagne, who came home in 27.0, the fastest fourth 50 by .8.

Top-seeded Alex Kunert of Queens, the defending champion and meet record-holder, took the final heat in 1:43.32. Drury’s Dominik Daracic went 1:45.00, .14 better than his seed time, to finish second ahead of Colorado Mesa’s Dejan Urbanek (1:46.42) and Indy’s Jackson Vanwanzeele (1:46.48).

Men’s 3-Meter Diving
