BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (February 18, 2022) – The Southeastern Conference announced the 2022 Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athletes of the Year in conjunction with the 2022 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships.
Jack Dahlgren of Missouri was named the 2022 SEC Men’s Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Dahlgren a senior from Victoria, Minn., is a member of the undergrad/graduate program in mechanical engineering who owns a 3.878 grade point average. He currently holds the 11th fastest time in the nation in the 200 free (1:33.55), the 11th fastest time in the nation in the 200 back (1:40.96) and the 14th fastest time in the nation in the 100 free (42.43) this season. Dahlgren, an NCAA qualifier all three years of his collegiate career, is a two-time member of the All-SEC Second Team and a member of the 2018-19 All-SEC Freshman Team. He has earned six Honorable Mention All-America accolades in his career along with a spot on the First Team All-America last season. Dahlgren has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll every year and to the Dean’s List every semester.
Riley Gaines of Kentucky was selected the 2022 Women’s Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Gaines is a senior from Gallatin, Tenn., and has a 3.876 grade point average in health sciences. She currently holds the ninth fastest time in the nation in the 200 free (1:43.81), the 14th fastest time in the nation in the 200 butterfly (1:54.84) and the 18th fastest time in the nation in the 100 free (48.43) this season. Gaines helped Kentucky win its first-ever conference championship last season after earning the gold medal in the 200 free and 800 free relay and the bronze medal in both the 200 and 400 medley relays. A five-time All-American and a three-time All-America Honorable Mention, she was a silver medalist in the 800 free relay at the 2021 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships and finished seventh in the 200 free. She was a member of the 2021 All-SEC First Team, the 2019 and 2020 All-SEC Second Team and the 2019 All-SEC Freshman Team.
