2022 FINA SHORT COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day Six Finals Recap

The final day of the 2022 Short Course World Championships is in the book. That means it’s time for the final scoring update for the SwimSwam Pick’em contest. There were ten events in which finals were competed on day six of the meet, marking one of the busiest days for Pick’ems.

Day 6 Winners:

  • Women’s 100 fly – Maggie MacNeil, Canada, 54.05 (World Record)
  • Men’s 100 fly – Chad le Clos, South Africa, 48.59
  • Women’s 50 breast – Ruta Meilutyte, Lithuania, 28.50
  • Men’s 50 breast – Nic Fink, USA, 25.38 (American Record)
  • Women’s 200 back – Kaylee McKeown, Australia, 1:59.26
  • Men’s 200 back – Ryan Murphy, USA, 1:47.41

    • USA (Ryan Murphy, Nic Fink, Trenton Julian, Kieran Smith)
    • Australia (Isaac Cooper, Joshua Yong, Matthew Temple, Kyle Chalmers)

There weren’t many surprises today, unlike some of the other days of the meet. Sunwoo Hwang winning the men’s 200 free was probably the most unexpected result on day six but even that wasn’t completely out of nowhere. In fact, around 40% of the contestants had selected Hwang to win a medal and over half the contestants selected him to finish in the top four. Aside from that, Australia tying the U.S. for gold in the men’s 4×100 medley relay was the only other winner that wasn’t necessarily expected.

The winner of day six was screen name “Noah,” who racked up 123 points to finish out the meet. He was the top scorer on the day by three points. However, “Noah” is not eligible to win prizes. Second place on day six was “Green Harvey,” who also is not eligible for prizes. Coming in third place on day six was “n.o_o.dles,” who get this, is also not eligible for prizes. That being said, the prize winner from day six ends up being screen name “ryanjnoyes,” who was fourth in scoring on the day. Congratulations!

Here are the results from day six:

Now, what we’ve all been waiting for: the final standings from the 2022 SC World Champs Pick’ems. Coming in first place is “n.o_o.dles,” who pulled into the lead in the middle of the meet and held that position through the end. They ended with a score of 491, finishing three points ahead of “Green Harvey.” There was a huge gap between Green Harvey and the third-place finisher, “ryanjnoyes,” who finished with a score of 469. As stated above, both “n.o_o.dles” and “Green Harvey” are not eligible to receive prizes. That means the grand prize will go to “ryanjnoyes,” who also won the day six prize.

I don’t think I’ve ever finished top 50 let alone 6th! 😮 Picking at the last minute after people have scratched definitely helped.
