Backstroke on the women’s side tends to be much slower at trials than at International Meet. Regan Smith was expected by many to go 57.2-57.5 and ended up going 58.3 in 2021. White also was 58.4 and ended up going 58.6 in finals. I’d say Smith is gonna be somewhere around 58.2-58.4, and Berkoff will be around 58.4-58.7.

Is Lydia Jacoby not swimming trials? Otherwise definitely have her in the mix for the 100 and possibly 200.

Lydia is an amazing talent, but I think it is going to be a few years before we see her go 1:04 again. She seems like she’s going to be the type of athlete that builds up inside of each Olympic Quad. She hasn’t been too sharp this season in either SC or LC, but that could all be because of not tapering. Honestly, I could be wrong on betting her out (it’s against my better judgment), but I don’t know how she’s going to react with having her big taper being in April.

Interesting take on the 100 free. Didn’t Curzan just recently beat Brown, Hinds, and Weitzeil?

Would love to see Curzan in the 2 back but it’s right before the 50 fly and I’m thinking she chooses the 50.
