With swimming action beginning in Budapest just three days from now, the official psych sheets have been posted for the 2022 FINA World Aquatics Championships.
We’ll be picking out any surprises as we sift through the men’s and women’s entries, as well as refreshing our pick ’ems contest with any notable changes.
For instance, we know that, although listed on the psychs, both British swimmer Duncan Scott, as well as South African Pieter Coetze will now no longer be racing due to COVID-19 complications.
On the other end of the spectrum, we knew that Australian Kaylee McKeown would not be racing the 400m IM here in Budapest and her entries in the individual events of the 50m/100m/200m back, as well as the 200m IM confirm that.
Her teammate, Olympic gold medalist Mollie O’Callaghan is sticking to the free sprints, despite having placed 2nd in both the 100m and 200m back at the Australian Trials.
Additionally, despite unsubstantiated rumors that Olympic champion and world record holder Kristof Milak would be bypassing his 200m fly specialty, the Hungarian is indeed entered in that event, as well as the 200m free, 50m fly and 100m fly.
Look for additional posts revealing other elite swimmers’ schedules from around the world.
Let’s see is zhou jihong turns up and tries to cheat on behalf of China again
Everyone know she cheat in diving but swimming too?
This will be a very watered down world championships
Absolutely …..2 of the best Women’s Freestylers on this planet + 200m breast WR holder and 100m Mens WR holder and the best Sprint / Middle distance male swimmer missing…just to name a few.
Throw in all the Russians
Facts baby Facts
where you can get a gold medal which means you have won
Will there be a pick em contest for world champs?
Interesting GBR entries: Freya Anderson is racing in 400 Free. Abbie Wood is not racing 200 Free so Freya Colbert is racing instead. Tom Dean chooses the 200IM over the 100 Free so Whittle gets to swim the 100 Free individually.
Wonder whether Guy or Richards replaces Scott in the individual 200 Free. I assume it will be Richards since Guy is swimming the 200 Fly which may clash with the 200 Free, Guy also looks like he’s focusing on his Fly more than previous years. Also wonder if Joe Litchfield will swim the 200IM instead of Scott or if he’s gonna focs on the 100 Back/800 free relay.
Matt Richards is not among the championships entries (neither is Lucy Hope btw)…there go some or most of our relays what with Duncs, Adam and Kathleen already out
Both Lucy Hope and Matt Richards are entered but only in relays (for now), Richards even mentioned he’s going to both Worlds and Commies in his latest Instagram post:

they’re still missing from the nation and discipline (as in swimming) entry lists…oh just checked, like the USA relay only ones..FINA!
Is replacing a swimer who is sick/has withdrawn allowed after entries have been finalised?
I hope so
Forgive my ignorance but how are entry times decided? A little confused on it as for example men’s 200 free, Hwang enter on his 1.45.79 from march 2022 but Dean has his olympic final time? And Winnington even earlier with his OT time from June 2021?
Its the athlete’s choice which time they sign up with I believe
I believe they can use any time from an eligible/approved meet in the relevant qualifying period that meets the standard. They don’t have to use their fastest time in the period.
This is the correct answerr
Ahh fair thanks guys.does make me wonder why Hwang hasn’t entered his faster times then surely he might be putting himself at a slight disadvantage in terms of lane/heat draw
its better to be seeded 4th than third…you swim in heat 7/9 if seeded third…4th seed gets heat 9/9
finally !!! Will they circle seed the last three heats for all events or only those that have semi-finals? How many heats will be circle seeded in the 400IM. Only prelims and finals in that event.
I think it’s standard to circle seed the last three heats of every event regardless of whether there is a semi-final.
Last 2 heats of 400 + events
FINALLY… now that the psych sheet has been posted… can I buy all of your chocolate please?
Kamminga not entered in 50 breast.
Michael for the gold
Dolphinenghi will win
They’ll be using underwater cameras to call dolphin kicks like at short course worlds last year.
He wasn’t called out for it at SC worlds last year and I don’t see that changing this Worlds.
