2022 Worlds: Day 5 Scratches, Great Britain Drops Women’s 4×200 Free Relay

2022 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

So far through day four we have not seen a ton of scratches, but definitely some notable ones such as Caeleb Dressel scratching the 100 freestyle due to medical reasons.

This morning we have already reported that China’s Yang Junxuan has scratched the women’s 100 freestyle semifinal as she is also expected to be on China’s 4×200 freestyle relay.

One notable scratch was the Great Britain women’s 4×200 freestyle relay. This morning the relay finished eighth in a time of 7:59.87. The team consisted of Freya Anderson (1:59.96), Medi Eira Harris (2:01.91), Freya Constance Colbert (1:59.24), and Lucy Hope (1:58.76).

Notably, Anderson was about three seconds off her time of 1:56.61 she swam last night to finish fourth in the 200 freestyle. Anderson is scheduled to swim the semifinals of the 100 freestyle after finishing 14th this morning with a 54.40. She will be swimming out of lane 1 in the second semi-final tonight.

Abbie Wood would have been another option for Great Britain but Wood swam the ninth fastest time this morning in prelims of the women’s 200 breaststroke (2:25.95). Wood will be in lane three tonight of the second semifinal.

The scratch by Great Britain moves ninth-place finisher from this morning New Zealand into lane eight. New Zealand combined to finish in a time of 8:04.87 this morning.

Sorry but I think Abbie Wood and Freya Anderson can manage to swim a relay at the end of the night. They always swim better for relay teams and at night. Perhaps if they had taken more swimmers for the relays like other countries they could of rested more of them. Also Medi only has the medley relay on the last day surely she could manage to do the relay tonight after her 50m race!!!

Abbie has the 200 breast then the 2IM then the 4×200…I don’t think she would swim at her best

Abbie only has the 200 breast tonight, then she is finished, I bet she would of liked to do the 4 x 200 relay and I think it is so disrespectful to pull out of the final, I think GrameziPT is right its because they are not in the mix for a medal. Also they were supposed to be building for Paris so would of made more sense to swim the final for experience

Scratching a relay final…wow…so disrespectful. Would they scratch if they had qualified top 3? In my swimming days swimming a final was something honorable? nowadays seems some swimmers or countries scratch because they can’t fight for medals. What a shame. Maybe put only the USA, Australia and China swimming the final

Pretty selfish decision for any relay only swimmers

Yeah why not just have relay only swimmers do it. You’re already in the final

All of them have indivdual events (3/5 of them are swimming individual events tonight) anyway except Lucy Hope who already swam prelims and finals of the 4×100 FR relay.
