Last night was the third finals session of Akron’s 2022 Zippy Invite. Yesterday’s events included the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 200 freestyle relay. With one day of racing remaining, the Penn men and Akron women continue to hold on to the top spots in the team standings. One notable change is that the Buffalo women jumped Penn to sit in 2nd.

Women’s Recap:
Akron’s Abby Daniel opened the session with a decisive win in the 100 fly, as she posted a personal best of 52.56 to take first. Teammate Rachel Sabotin picked up 3rd for the Zips, with a new personal best time of 53.86. Emilie Boisrenoult from Cornell took 4th with a new program record of 53.87.
Oakland’s Susan LaGrand completed her sweep of the IM events, as she picked up first in the 400 IM with personal best of 4:15.69. She touched the wall almost six seconds ahead of Akron’s Astrid Halvorsen, who swam a 4:21.60.
Cornell senior Melissa Parker touched first in the 200 free in a best time of 1:47.13. Her time marks a new program record and is over two seconds faster than her previous best. Buffalo’s Toni Naccarella took second with a 1:47.70, also a personal best.
Buffalo senior Katie Pollock won the 100 breast in 1:00.92, just a few tenths quicker than Akron’s Andrea Fischer (1:01.24). Cornell freshman Audrey Holden placed 5th with a new program record time of 1:02.11.
In the final individual event of the evening, Akron junior Maddy Gatrall posted a 51.85 in the 100 back. She was only 0.01 off the Mid-American Conference and Akron record she set the previous day. Teammate Weronika Gorecka took 2nd in a best time of 53.17.
Akron’s team of Daniel (22.85), Gatrall (22.34), Rachel Schiffli (22.43), and Olivia Derodes (22.61) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:30.23. Cornell’s team of Priscilla Wongso (23.07), Boisrenoult (22.95), Joelle Ohr (22.51), Parker (22.47) took 2nd in a new program record of 1:31.00.
Men’s Recap:
Penn’s Benjamin Feldman opened the night with a meet and pool record in the 100 fly. He clocked a personal best of 46.79, a few tenths ahead of Keiser’s Alberto Garcia (47.11). Andrew Dai picked up 3rd for the Quakers, as he posted a best time of 47.47.
The 400 IM was an exciting race, as Penn’s Jason Schreiber tied with teammate Kevin Keil to post personal best times of 3:49.45. Their teammate Daniel Gallagher took 3rd, as he touched the wall at 3:53.00
Oakland’s Samuel McKenzie dominated the 200 free, as he took 1st in a meet and pool record time of 1:35.70, which is the 2nd-fastest time in program history. His teammate Jonas Cantrell grabbed 2nd (1:37.44), while Cornell freshman Daniel Simoes took 3rd (1:37.86).
As expected, Penn’s Matt Fallon cruised to first in the 100 breast with a season best time of 52.00. His time puts him 13th in the country so far this season. Keiser freshman Noel De Gues took 2nd in 53.05.
Oakland’s Marko Khotynetskyi won the 100 back in a season best of 47.12, about half a second ahead of Penn’s Jack Hamilton (47.67).
In the final event of the night, Penn’s team of Hamilton (20.53), Feldman (19.41), Alex Fu (20.36), and Dai (19.72) combined to win the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:20.02.
The meet will conclude today with the 1650, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 freestyle relay.
