2023 NCAA ‘A’ finalist in both the 50 and 100 freestyles Christiana Regenauer will return to Louisville to use her COVID-19 fifth year of eligibility. She made the announcement on Instagram saying:
“Cheers to the best 4 years!!🥂🎉🤘🏼
Excited to announce I will be pursuing my masters in business administration & competing alongside my besties for one more year!! Ls up forever⚜️💖”
She also told SwimSwam that “This past year was super special for me and my team, ending up fourth at NCAAs. But I believe we’re capable of even more. This is a special group of girls and the best team culture I’ve had during my time here. We all truly care for each other and help each other get better. We’re already focused on the mission for next March, and I just couldn’t leave without at least trying to accomplish that, a concept my coaches call unfinished business. With Olympic trials next summer, it makes sense to continue my career for that meet as well. After breaking through some big personal barriers this year, I’m excited to see what else I can accomplish.”
Regenauer spent her first four years with the Cardinals. As a freshman at ACCs, she was fifth in the 50 free (22.10), 13th in the 100 fly (53.02), and 15th in the 100 free (49.05).
In her sophomore season, Regenauer was sixth in the 50 free (22.32), 11th in the 100 free (49.27), and 20th in the 100 fly (53.33). She scored 45 individual points, the sixth most on the team. She went on to swim in prelims of NCAAs.
At 2022 ACCs, Regenauer was eighth in the 100 free (48.60), 10th in the 50 free (22.24), and 14th in the 100 fly (52.76). Once again she went on to swim in prelims of NCAAs.
Regenauer went on to have a huge senior season, making three ACC A finals. She was third in the 50 free (21.58), fifth in the 100 free (47.47), and sixth in the 100 fly (51.03). She also went on to make her first NCAA individual finals.
At NCAAs, she made the A final of the 50 and 100 frees as well as the B final of the 100 fly. She finished seventh in the 50 free (21.68), seventh in the 100 free (47.50), and 13th in the 100 fly (51.26). She also was on four of Louisville’s relays, helping all four to top 8 finishes.
Her best SCY times are:
- 50 free: 21.58
- 100 free: 47.33
- 100 fly: 51.03
The Louisville women just scored their most NCAA points in program history with a total of 288. Regenauer was a big conitributor as she scored 28 individual points, and, as mentioned above, was a part of four of their top 8 finishing relays, including their third place finishing 200 and 400 free relays.
With the return of Regenauer, the team looks set up for another successful year as they only lose one NCAA member with Liberty Williams in the transfer portal. In addition, Abby Hay has already announced her return for next season. The loss of Williams but the returns of Regenauer and Hay means they return all of their relay legs and lose nine individual points. Notably, Louisville finished 25 points ahead of NC State.
Regenauer will pursue her master’s of business administration (MBA).
YES!! Huge senior year from her! Can’t wait to see what she does next!!
If Swimswam is looking for more interview / profiles, I’d like to hear from people like Christiana, who plateaued for a few years then found a way to break through and swim faster than ever. What changed this last season to lead to such success?
