2023 NCAA finalist in the 50 free Ashley Turak has announced on Instagram that she will be staying at Indiana to use her COVID-19 fifth year.
“This past year at Indiana has been nothing short of extraordinary for me and this team,” Turak told SwimSwam. “After being injured at 2022 B1Gs and NCAAs, the staff, my team, and my parents supported me into my most successful season and back to dropping time this past year. Most importantly, I was back to being my true happy self in and out of the water. This past season has made me regain my love for the sport and has pushed me to see that I have even more potential and effort I want to give to the sport. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next year here at IU. Proud to be a Hoosier for the last ride.”
Turak spent her first four years at Indiana. As a freshman, she scored 37 individual points at Big Tens, finishing ninth in the 50 free (22.20) and 10th in the 100 free (49.30).
As a sophomore, Turak was fifth in the 100 free (48.60), ninth in the 50 free (22.26), and 14th in the 200 free (1:47.77). She went on to swim at NCAAs where she was 17th in the 50 free and 29th in the 100 free. She also swam on Indiana’s 200 medley, 200 free, and 400 free relays.
In her junior season, she went to NCAAs as a relay only swimmer, but battled back her senior year. At 2023 Big Tens, Turak scored 51 individual points and was highlighted by a sixth place finish in the 100 free (48.66) and a seventh place finish in the 50 free (22.35).
At NCAAs this past March, she made the B final of the 50 free and touched in a final time of 21.81, a new personal best. She finished 10th scoring seven points. She also swam a 48.59 in the 100 free for 35th. She also swam on Indiana’s sixth place finishing 400 free relay and their eighth place finishing 200 free relay.
Turak’s best times are:
- 50 free: 21.81
- 100 free: 48.56
- 200 free: 1:47.56
Turak will be adding a sports marketing minor with an EMT certification as her exercise physiology bachelor’s degree is finished. After graduating, she plans to pursue a masters in exercise physiology.
Hoosiers over Bucks next year. Calling it here first!
Sorry, Ashley going 0-5 versus Bucks.
Turak is the goat
Nice solid squad coming back with good incoming class!
in other big news and on the topic of the Hoosiers, i think Leah Shackley committed (although I’d love a source to confirm)
She is no longer commit to IU. USA swimming sources saying she’s looking at options.
This is a wise choice. IU is TOXIC! She will be very happy elsewhere..
Decommited?
Correct, I meant decommited
