Long Island Aquatic Club’s Cavan Gormsen headlines the girls’ 200 freestyle after picking up a victory in the 1650 free on Tuesday, while teammate Tess Howley holds the top seed in the 200 butterfly and Elmbrook Swim Club’s Lucy Thomas is the defending champion in the 100 breaststroke.
Rockville Montgomery’s Toby Barnett comes in as the swimmer to beat in the boys’ 400 IM after placing second last year, while in the 100 breast, Inspire Swim Team’s Nathaniel Germonprez is the top seed and is the defending champion after winning last year’s event in 53.04.
In the 100 back, Hudson Williams and Scotty Buff will go to battle once again after Williams (42.54) got the better of Buff (42.94) in the 100 free last night. Buff went on to pick up a win of his own in the 50 fly later on.

After becoming the fastest 15-year-old of all-time last night in the 1000 free, NOVA of Virginia’s Nathan Szobota dropped another monstrous best time in the 400 IM on Wednesday morning, clocking 3:49.93 to knock more than five seconds off his previous best of 3:55.44 set at Winter Juniors – East in December.
Szotoba now ranks 11th all-time among 15-year-olds in the event, and slots into 13th this season in the boys’ 15-16 age group.
Elmbrook Swim Club’s Lance Johnson was run down by Szotoba in the 14th heat on the freestyle leg, but qualifies a clear second for the final in a time of 3:50.06, with the Kentucky commit having set a PB of 3:48.78 in December.
Rockville Montgomery’s Toby Barnett, who swam a lifetime best of 3:46.68 in mid-December, cruised through in third overall at 3:51.14.
GIRLS’ 100 BREAST – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 58.93, Lucy Thomas – 2022
- Lucy Thomas (EBSC), 59.11
- Campbell Stoll (EBSC), 1:00.20
- Bridget McGann (ACAD), 1:00.99
- Elle Scott (NOVA), 1:01.13

- Grace Rabb (AQJT), 1:01.58

- Maggie Papanicholas (WILD), 1:02.02
Elmbrook’s Lucy Thomas narrowly missed resetting her meet record from last year in the prelims of the girls’ 100 breast, punching in a time of 59.11 to clear the field by over a second.
Thomas, a Stanford commit who won last year’s title in a time of 58.93, is coming off of setting a PB of 58.84 last month at the Wisconsin LSC Short Course Championships and should be in position to challenge that mark in tonight’s final.
Her teammate Campbell Stoll, who set a PB of her own at the Wisconsin LSC meet in 59.89, was just three-tenths shy of that mark to qualify second overall in 1:00.20, while Academy Bullets’ Bridget McGann dropped over half a second from her best time in 1:00.99 to advance in third.
BOYS’ 100 BREAST – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 51.78, Andrew Seliskar – 2015
- Nathaniel Germonprez (ISWM), 53.17
- Abram Mueller (BAC), 53.26
- Charlie Egeland (AQJT), 53.56
- Jed Garner (RMSC), 54.45
- Lance Johnson (EBSC), 54.47
- Caiden Bowers (EST), 55.16
- Jeffrey Hou (FMC), 55.18
- Brady Johnson (FMC), 55.25
The top three seeds in the boys’ 100 breast jockeyed for position this morning as none of them quite reached their personal best time but they all finished within four-tenths of one another to setup an excellent showdown tonight.
Inspire’s Nathaniel Germonprez led the way as he looks to defend his title from last year, using a blistering opening 50 of 24.83 to qualify first in a time of 53.17, with the Texas commit having set a personal best this past December in 52.59.
Badger Aquatic Club’s Abram Mueller was six one-hundredths short of his PB set last month to advance second overall in 53.26, as the 17-year-old clocked 53.20 en route to winning the WIAA D1 state title in February.
Aquajets’ Charlie Egeland, who set a lifetime best of 53.53 earlier this month at the MSHSL Class A Championships in Minneapolis, was .03 off of that for the third seed in 53.56.
Rockville Montgomery’s Jed Garner should also be a threat tonight as he owns a PB of 53.76 from December, but he was off the pace relative to the top three this morning in 54.45. Elmbrook’s Lance Johnson completed an impressive double coming off the 400 IM to advance in fifth.
GIRLS’ 200 FLY – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 1:52.88, Tess Howley – 2022
- Tess Howley (LIAC), 1:55.76

- Samantha Chan (HSA), 1:59.85
Defending champion and NCSA record holder Tess Howley cruised to the top seed in the girls’ 200 fly in a time of 1:55.76, exactly three seconds off the lifetime best she set at the 2021 NCAP Invitational.
Committed to UVA for next season, Howley owns a season-best time of 1:53.04, set at the 2022 NCAP Invite in December.
Campbell Stoll put her versatility on display by qualifying second into the final shortly after doing the same in the 100 breast, touching in 1:56.07 for a new season-best. Stoll was the runner-up to Howley last year in what remains her PB of 1:54.49.
Suburban Seahawks’ Lainey Mullins, another future Virginia Cavalier, qualified third overall in 1:58.61, just over a second back of her 1:57.40 best time from December. Both Mullins and Aspen Gersper qualified for their second final of the day after doing so earlier in the 200 free.
TNT Swimming’s Levenia Sim was well off her best time but still made it through to the final in 1:59.42, as the 2:00 barrier was the cut-off for a spot in tonight’s championship heat.
Sim owns a PB of 1:56.56 and was 1:56.99 in late February, so look for her to move into a podium spot tonight.

Rappahannock Stingrays Swim Team member Kyle Peck advanced third in 47.84, having set a best of 47.08 back in January. Peck, 17, is committed to the Texas Longhorns.
