Leon Marchand posted the top time in the prelims of the 200 fly this morning, cruising a 1:57.90. Marchand, the 2023 World Champion in the event, should have more to drop tonight as he likely played it safe this morning as he had the 200 breaststroke later on in the session. Marchand has dabbled with the 200 breaststroke but never at championships meets. With a home Olympics, the organizing committee altered the schedule, allowing for more rest between the two events, and Marchand appears to be poised to make the team in both events.
Marchand was joined under the 2-minute barrier by Noyan Taylan (1:58.46) and Clement Secchi (1:58.99). In the 200 breast, Marchand actually touched 2nd (2:12.85) behind Antoine Marc (2:12.83), who is still hunting for his ticket to Paris.
Emma Terebo looks in a good position to make the team in a second event after swimming to a new French record in the 100 back this morning. Her time this morning in the 200 back was 2:10.37, which is already under the Olympic Qualifying time of 2:10.39.
