2024 Meeting Nice – Camille Muffat Kicks Off Sunday, March 17th

2024 MEETING NICE – CAMILLE MUFFAT – GIANT SERIES

The 2024 Meeting Camille Muffat, named after the national record holder who died in a helicopter crash in 2015, gets underway on Sunday, March 17th. The competition is a tune-up opportunity for French athletes ahead of their all-important Olympic Trials on the calendar for June.

But there are several other nations headed to Nice for the competition, including entrants from Switzerland, the Netherlands, South Africa and more to give an international flair to the affair.

Key Entrants

  • Australia – Maddy Gough
  • Brazil – Marcelo Chierighini, Joao Gomes, Jr., Guilherme Guido
  • France – David Aubry, Charlotte Bonnet, Beryl Gastaldello, Laura Grangeon, Maxime Grousset, Melanie Henique, Anastasia Kirpichnikova, Mewen Tomac, Marie Wattel, Florent Manaudou, Yohann Ndoye-Brouard, Analia Pigree

He has been working on the last 50 and it looks great. His technique is solid

This seems like the kind of meet he’ll pop off, give believers some hope, then crush said hope come trials.

Glad to see the seller of the century Michael Andrew actually trying his hand at something over 50 meters.

Unsurprised that Mr My Dad Is Throwing My Talent Into The Trash couldn’t let go of the non Olympic 50 races 😐

He swam a lot of 100 events and even 200 IM at the World Cup series. He swam 100 events at the US Open.

Do we think Michael Andrew has given up on the Olympics? He’s taken on a boat load of sponsorships on his Instagram and is now travelling to France in the middle of the hard training window to compete in a random meet. To me that means he’s just cashing in rather than relying on the Olympic exposure he thinks he may not get.

What is a “hard training window” for someone like Michael Andrew? And is it limited to taking place on American soil?

You think Michael Andrew can train as well flying to France, competing in races, training in unknown surroundings, crowded with other people, probably having obligations there as well. As oppose to getting his head down in America where he knows his pool, area etc…

There’s more than one stop. The finals are in Saint Germain St. Laye at the end of the month.

Does Michael swim anything well over a 50?

He is American record holder 100 breast which means no other American has swam the 100 breast faster than him.

He can, but it is usually in prelims or semis.

Finals can be slower in general not unique to him.

Seems like there is still a finale happening on March 23-24, according to this press release by LEN. (https://www.len.eu/french-swimming-federation-issues-entry-details-for-2024-giant-open/)

I’d probably add Mary-Sophie Harvey (CAN) as a key entrant. I imagine she’ll place well.
