2024 New Zealand Olympic Trials Kick Off Tuesday, April 9th

2024 NEW ZEALAND SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2024 New Zealand Swimming Championships are nearly upon us with action kicking off on Tuesday, April 9th from Hawke’s Bay Regional Aquatic Centre.

The competition represents an Olympic selection opportunity for athletes who haven’t achieved a World Aquatics Olympic Qualification Time at this year’s World Championships.

In Doha this year, Lewis Clareburt topped the men’s 400m IM podium while Erika Fairweather grabbed gold in the women’s 400m free. Fairweather also collected silver in the 200m free and bronze in the 800m free to punch 3 Paris 2024-worthy outings ahead of this competition.

We’ll see Clareburt and Fairweather this week, along with Helena Gasson, Zac Reid, Monique Wieruszowski and more as the events unfold over the course of the competition.

NZL might well beat some teams like RSA in a dual-meet atm.

Some great swimmers and improving depth in quite a few events.

If you subbed Cam Gray into that Club 37 relay team it would be really sharp. Its criminal how NZ does not send relays to hardly any big meets. Zero at the last Comm Games.

Off topic, but Milak is the fastest seed going into the 100 free final at Hungarian Nationals; a tenth faster than he was in last year’s prelims.

NZ was the definition of not stonks.

Does not send relay to both worlds
Hit a time with not best team that could qualify (could be 3:14 flat around israel and germany time)

Absolute amazing federation!!!!

Don’t the NZOC has a ‘no tourist’ policy as well in terms of accepting quota? Whether they would actually accept the quota amd send relay-only atheltes even if they earned qualification at worlds is a genuine question.
