2024 Speedo Summer Championships: Day 4 Preview & Scratches – House leads the way in 2 Free

2024 SPEEDO SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIPS

DAY 4 PRELIMS HEAT SHEET

PREVIEW

Similar to yesterday, Bella Sims is the top seed in the morning’s first event. She enters more than three seconds clear of her next closest competitor in the Women’s 200 Free. In the 400 free yesterday morning, Sims took the race out a little hard and faltered on the last 100, but with half that distance to cover this morning, it’ll be interesting to see how she attacks the race. Behind her and separated by just .01 are Mackenzie Hodges and Kayla Wilson, and they will both be in the hunt for lane 4 tonight.

The men’s 200 will be a tight race as well, with the top 4 separated by just over half a second. Grant House leads the way with his 146.73, but Rex Maurer, who has been having a strong meet, lurks as the 3rd seed. Don’t count out Owen McDonald either; the 5th seed had a strong performance last night in the 200 back.

The 100s back are a Tale of Two Cities. The men’s event is quite spread out, with almost a second and a half from Jack Wilkening‘s top seed to the #2 and a quarter of a second from #2 to #3. However, on the women’s side, just half a second separates 1st through 11th, meaning that the prelims will have to be fast in order to guarantee a spot into the A final.

The morning concludes with the 200 breaststroke. Isabelle Odgers and Jordan Willis clock in as the top seeds, and each has a healthy margin over the next. In the women’s, Odgers is clear by over three seconds, while in the men’s, Willis is over a second ahead of Joe Polyak.

SCRATCHES

The scratch table has been relatively quiet, as it has been for the last few days. While Justina Kozan scratched out of both her events, she has done so for every session previously, so her withdrawal should come as no surprise. The same is true for Luke Barr, who has pulled out of his events.

Rex Maurer, the #3 seed in the 100 back, has withdrawn, but seeing as it is on the heels of the 200 free, where he is also the #3 seed, it is not unexpected, especially as he did the same thing yesterday with the 400 free and 200 back.
