We entered day two of the 2025 Spanish Spring Championships with swimmers diving in for in-season results a few months ahead of this year’s World Championsips.
The 5-day competition represents an important stepping stone on the way to the Spanish World Championship Trials on the agenda for June.
The women’s 50m free saw Maria Garcia grab the gold, registering a time of 25.31 as one of three swimmers to delve under the 26-second barrier.
Next to the wall was Irene Ciercoles Galve who touched in 25.83 while Claudia Munoz Becerra rounded out the podium in 25.99.
As for Garcia, the 17-year-old’s performance this evening represented the 7th-best time of her young career. The Spaniard teen owns a lifetime best of 25.53 notched at the 2023 Rotterdam Qualification Meet.
She’ll need to hack off some major time to meet the World Aquatics ‘A’ cut of 24.83 needed to qualify for this summer’s World Championships.
The men’s 50m free had Sergio De Celis Montalban claim the victory in a time of 22.46 in a narrow win over Luca Hoek Le Guenedal.
Le Guenedal settled for silver in 22.58 as Oscar Pascual Buldon bagged bronze in 22.61. The men will be seeking an ‘A’ cut of 22.05 at June’s World Championship Trials.
The women’s and men’s 200m back finals were also on tonight’s agenda, with Estella Tonrath Nollgren claiming gold in the former’s race and Diego Mira Albaladejo reaping gold in the latter.
Nollgren stopped the clock at 2:09.89 to claim the sole outing of the field under the 2:10 barrier.
As or Albaladejo, his time of 1:58.74 narrowly defeated reigning world champion and Olympic finalist Huge Gonzalez who nabbed silver just .12 behind in 1:58.86.
