24 British Athletes Ready to Compete in Baku

24 British athletes are set to compete at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

“We know we have a team that can go into this event with a lot of confidence. We have a particularly nice blend of experienced athletes who are well known and successful at this level, alongside some new talent who will be keen to stand up and show what they can do too,” said British Swimming Head of Performance Pathway Tim Jones.

“British Swimming always sets the bar extremely high when setting selection standards for our Junior teams and the swimmers who will be representing Team GB in Baku know they will be competitive in all of their races.

“We have a team which is not only incredibly proud to have been selected for the inaugural European Games but fiercely determined to do well”

That confidence has been earned considering that Great Britain finished third at the European Junior Championships last summer earning four gold, four silver and four bronze.

The team for Baku will include all but one of the athletes that earned individual medals last summer in Dordrecht.

On the men’s side Luke Greenbank took gold in the 200 backstroke while Duncan Scott took the gold in the 200 IM.

The women’s medalist include Holly Hibbott who took the silver in the 800 freestyle, Amelia Clynes who won the silver in the 100 butterfly and the bronze the 200 butterfly and Georgia Coates who collected the silver in the 200 IM and the bronze in the 400 IM.

The only individual medalist missing from the team is Rosie Rudin who took the silver in the women’s 400 IM.
