Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Conor McKenna from Frisco, Texas has made a verbal commitment to the application process* at Princeton University.
“I’m excited to announce my commitment to the application process at Princeton University! I can’t thank my parents, teammates, friends, and coaches enough for their support throughout this journey. Go Tigers! 🐅”
McKenna is a junior at Wakeland High School where he is the reigning Texas UIL 5A state champion in the 100 fly. At the 2021 state meet, he posted the top time of 48.71 in the fly and placed third in the 200 free with 1:40.67, contributing heavily to the Wolverines’ 2021 state title. A year ago he won the fly with 48.21 and was fifth in the 200 free (1:40.39). All three of their relays medaled at States in both 2020 and 2021. Wakeland placed second in the team race in both 2019 and 2020.
McKenna does his year-round swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club. He was singled out for his butterfly prowess in the Best of the Rest section of our Way Too Early List of top boys in the high school class of 2022. Since then, he has improved from 48.2 to 47.9 in the 100 fly and from 1:48.0 to 1:45.0 in the 200. He is an Olympic Trials Wave 1 qualifier in the 200m fly, having swum a 2:00.13 at the 18&U LCM Time Trial in December 2020. At the same meet, he was runner-up in both the 100y fly and 200y fly with SCY lifetime bests in both events. In March, he went best times in the 50/100/500 free at Speedo Lone Star Invitational.
McKenna will join the Tigers’ class of 2026 with James Pan and Lucas Strobek. His 200 fly time would have scored in the A final at 2020 Ivy League Men’s Championships. He would have been a B finalist in the 100 fly and a C finalist in the 50 free. McKenna confided to SwimSwam that in high school meets, the Wolverines “wear 100% orange, so at Princeton, I’ll be continuing my streak of loving and representing orange.”
He has been on quite an improvement streak in high school, going from 22.6 to 20.8 in the 50 free, 49.8 to 45.6 in the 100 free, 1:47.4 to 1:40.3 in the 200 free, 4:57.9 to 4:33.0 in the 500 free, 1:54.0 to 1:45.0 in the 200 fly, and 51.1 to 47.9 in the 100 fly.
Best SCY times:
- 200 fly – 1:45.02
- 100 fly – 47.93
- 50 free – 20.80
- 100 free – 45.66
- 200 free – 1:40.39
- 500 free – 4:33.00
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
