3 stops in Canada – FINA 2014 10K World Cup and Grand Prix Schedule

The 2014 FINA 10K world cup series will kick off on February 1, 2014 in Argentina.  This year’s series has most of the stops in north America and a total of 3 events in Canada over the 2014 north American summer.  Once again the series will conclude in Hong Kong.  The 2014 schedule is:

February 1: Viedma, Argentina

April 5: Mazanillo, Mexico

June 28: Setubal, Portugal

July 24: Lac St. Jean, Canada

July 31: Lac Magogg, Canada

August 9: Lac Megantic, Canada

October 4: Hong Kong

The 2014 FINA grand prix series (swims ranging from 10K to 88km) shares some of the same venues as the world cup races

January 26: Rosario, Argentina

February 2: Santa Fe-Coronda, Argentina

February 9: Hernandarias-Parana, Argentina

March 29: Manzanillo, Mexico

July 26 Lac St. Jean, Canada

August 2: Lac Magog, Canada

TBA: Ohrid Lake Macedonia

August 31: Capri-Napoli, Italy

From the FINA website: “In the beginning (between 1997 and 2006), the World Cup included a whole range of long distances. Since 2007, FINA decided to focus the World Cup on the 10km distance only, as a direct consequence of the introduction of the 10km Marathon Swim on the Olympic programme in 2005. The former Marathon Swimming World Cup circuit was therefore “split” in order to create a separate 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup, while races above 10km would then be part of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix.”
