During the prelims session of the Richmond site Spring Cup, there was a handful of Olympic Trials cuts achieved. Firstly, Lauren Walsh, a 16-year-old from Rapids Swim Team in Connecticut, took the top seed in the women’s 100 breast with a 1:10.94. The swim marked a personal best for Walsh by 0.70 seconds, and brought her under the Olympic Trials Wave I cut of 1:10.99. Walsh’s previous best was from December of 2019. This is also Walsh’s first Trials cut. Walsh is also in the 200 breast, 100 free, and 200 IM this weekend.

Next up, Cavalier Aquatics/Piedmont Family Y 15-year-old Grey Davis posted a 1:00.22 to take 2nd in the women’s 100 fly this morning. With the swim, Davis melted 0.89 seconds off her previous best of 1:01.11, which she swam in January of this year. 1:00.22 is under the Wave I cut of 1:00.69. Like Walsh, this marks Davis’ first Trials cut.

Jersey Wahoos 18-year-old Erin Cavanagh picked up a Trials cut in the 400 IM, swimming a 4:50.17. The swim marked an improvement of 3.57 seconds from her previous best of 4:53.74, which she swam in the summer of 2019. Cavanagh brought the race home in sizzling fashion, splitting 1:03.24 on the freestyle 100. 4:50.17 is well under the Wave I standard of 4:51.79.  Just like the other 2, this was Cavanagh’s first Trials cut.
