More than half of the sex-related charges against Australian swim instructor Kyle Daniels have been dropped, but 26 charges still remain.
Australia’s 7News reports that 33 of 59 total charges have been withdrawn, according to the latest charge sheet.
The 20-year-old Daniels was arrested in March and accused of sexually touching an eight-year-old girl and a six-year-old girl while giving them swim lessons. Reports at the time said Daniels had previously had a complaint against him, but was allowed to keep his job. He’s since been suspended from his job at the swim school and spent a week in jail after his arrest.
Daniels’ attorney said in court that Daniels “strongly denies the allegations,” characterizing the alleged touching as a “misunderstanding” and saying that one of the young girls merely felt her swimsuit riding up during backstroke, according to a news report from ABC.
Over the spring, more victims came forward. By May, there were 10 alleged victims and the charge list had grown to 35. Per 7News, those charges included rape, indecent assault and sexually touching a child. All alleged victims are under the age of 10, according to 7News.
Never ideal when the police unit handling the investigation produce 33 charges then have to rescind them . There is no Plea Bargaining in NSW. so there have been severe miscalculations . .
Hope he spends time in prison.
