For more commitment articles, be sure to check out SwimSwam’s College Recruiting channel.

Wilton YMCA Wahoo swimmer Emma Holmquist has made a verbal commitment to the University of Pennsylvania for 2016-17. She will join her brother Stephen Holmquist (University of Michigan ’19) and follow her father Peter Holmquist (Michigan ’87) and grandfather Eric Holmquist (captain of Purdue, class of ’53) as a Division I swimmer.

Holmquist, a two time Scholastic All American, swims under Randy Erlenbach at Wilton Y Wahoos, and also for Wilton High School in Connecticut. She will bring to Penn her strength in the breaststroke and IM events, having qualified for both Summer Juniors and Winter Nationals in the 200 breast. Holmquist has been a finalist at every SCY and LCM YMCA Nationals she has competed in since she first qualified in 2013. Most recently, she was runner-up in the 200 breast at the 2015 YMCA Long Course Nationals.

Best times:

  SCY LCM
100 breast 1:05.15 1:15.04
200 breast 2:15.73 2:37.72
400 IM 4:22.25 5:05.10
200 IM 2:07.73 2:25.36
200 free 1:51.32 2:08.95

Holmquist will be a great addition to the Quakers’ breaststroke group. Her times would have placed her in the A final for the 200 breast and the 400 IM and the B final for the 100 breast at last year’s Ivy League Women’s Championships.

Holmquist plans to enroll in the Wharton School of Business at Penn. “The combination of a top level swim program and business school makes Penn a perfect fit for me, I can’t wait to be a Quaker!”

She will join Claire Kercheval-Roig, Kaitlin Stearns, and Mollie Westrick in the University of Pennsylvania class of 2020.

*DISCLAIMER: Holmquist has not yet been officially accepted to Penn. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Penn’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Holmquist is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support her application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2020.
