4x Virginia 3A State Champ Keith Myburgh Verbally Commits to Virginia Tech for 2018-19

Roanoke, Virginia’s Keith Myburgh recently committed to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also known as Virginia Tech, beginning in the fall of 2018.

“When I visited the campus, the staff and coaches made me feel right at home. I cannot wait to spend the next four years of my academic and athletic career as a HOKIE!”

Myburgh is a junior at Hidden Valley High School. He won the 200 IM (1:50.41) and 100 breast (56.35) at the 2017 VHSL 3A State Swimming & Diving Championships this past February, breaking Virginia 3A records in both events (he lowered his own mark in the breast). In 2016, as a sophomore, he won the same events with 1:51.69 and 56.51, respectively.

Myburgh swims year-round for Virginia Gators. He competed at 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400 IM, finishing 38th. He recently updated all his SCY personal bests at the Dolfin ISCA Junior Championships. He won the 200 breast and 400 IM, setting meet records in both events, was runner-up in the 100 breast and 200 IM, and placed fifth in the 200 back. His top SCY times are:

  • 400 IM – 3:45.85
  • 200 IM – 1:48.13

he really isnt that good in any 3 events compared to the ncaa swimmers now. All around guys do not really go far in college. good job that he can swim all those events, but its not going to place him high and in NCAA swimming he can only swim 3 individual events.

For Virginia Tech this guy is a steal. Additionally this guy has gotten better year in and year out, he doesn’t have to drop that much to be successful and I think that will come with specializing for 3 events.

Keep in mind he’s only a junior in high school. I don’t know this forsure, but I bet it’s hard to find many current scoring NCAA swimmers that were faster than his 3:45 their junior year of high school. It’s called progressions. Kid is almost two years away from his freshman year ncaas. Good luck to this kid. Prove the haters wrong

Ohio State commit Paul Delakis has 3:46 4IM and a 1:45.76 2IM. There seems to be a lot of IM talent for 17-18 year olds right now!
