The Louisville Cardinals continue to soar through recruiting season, nabbing Ohio State champion Hannah Whiteley to fill out their backstroking corps.
Whiteley is an outstanding pickup, an NCSA Junior National champion as well as a high school state champ for Springboro High School.
That NCSA title earned her a shot at international experience, too, as she was selected as part of the NCSA U.S.A. team that traveled to the Irish Open last April. Domestically, she competes for the Mason Manta Rays of Mason, Ohio.
Whiteley is a big-time backstroker who should be an immediate-impact swimmer for the Cardinals.
Whiteley’s Top Times
- 100 yard back: 52.92
- 200 yard back: 1:57.49
- 100 yard fly: 54.71
- 50 yard free: 23.21
Those times would have made her an ACC “A” finalist in the 100 back last year and a B finalist in the 200. That’s a particularly good sign for Louisville, which didn’t place anyone higher than the C final in the 100 last year and just graduated top backstroker Erica Belcher.
Whiteley now joins a rising Louisville that is acquiring some serious talent. Whiteley should instantly be among the conference’s best backstrokers, and Louisville already got a verbal commitment from Grace Oglesby, one of the top few butterflyers in the recruiting class and the #9 overall commit in the class based on our summer rankings.
That will make for one-half of a potentially deadly medley relay for Louisville, especially with the two joining All-American breaststroker Andee Cottrell (currently a junior) for their first season in Cardinal red.

Louisville hasn’t missed a beat with coaching changes over the last couple of years. Once RKB left they got way better (not surprised), then other guy left and they are still recruiting well. Can’t wait to see what they continue to do!
Agreed. RKB is poison. I think that is pretty apparent in looking at her new team.
If RKB is poison as a coach and person. We all know coaches have their favorites; however, she publicly announces hers in front of the entire team.
