54.6 100-Backstroker Marlee Rickert Sends Verbal to George Washington

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Marlee Rickert from Leesport, Pennsylvania has announced she plans to swim for George Washington University beginning in the 2020-21 season. Rickert is a senior at Schuylkill Valley High School who specializes in backstroke and sprint free. She took third in the former (55.30) and third in the latter (23.58) at the 2019 PIAA Girls 2A Swimming and Diving Championships, adding a 25.91 backstroke leadoff on the medley relay and a 50.67 anchor on the 400 free relay. In club swimming, where she represents Reading YMCA, Rickert is a Winter Nationals qualifier in the 100 back and has a Winter Juniors standard in the 50 free. She competed at YMCA Long Course Nationals this summer and made the A final of the 50 back, coming in 6th with 30.58. At the YMPCA Short Course Nationals in April, she finaled in the 50 free (9th), 100 free (19th), and 100 back (6th) and improved her PBs in the 50/100/200 free and 50/100/200 back.

George Washington competes in Division I’s Atlantic-10 conference. The women finished in second place behind Duquesne by 18.5 points. Rickert’s best 100 back time would have landed her in the A final at the conference championships with Meghan Burton and Andrea Ho. She would have joined Gemma Atherley and Isabel Berdecio in the A final of the 200 back. She also would have scored in the A finals of the 50 free (with Caroline Racke and Rebecca Smolcic) and 100 free (with Emily Zhang). The Colonials won both the 200 free and 400 free relays but with Racke and Zhang having exhausted their eligibility, Rickert will have a chance to shine on relays, too.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to George Washington University to continue my academic and athletic career. I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for their unconditional love and support. I can’t wait wait to be apart of the GW family! Go Colonials! 💙💛” [sic]
