55ème Challenge International de Genève (SUI)
- Friday, January 21st – Sunday, January 23rd
- Centre Sportif des Vernets – Genève
- LCM (50m)
Although we’re awaiting the final start lists for the 55th annual Geneva Challenge in Switzerland, we do know from the organizers’ press that several big names are expected to get some long course racing under their belts this weekend.
Spanning Friday, January 21st through Sunday, January 23rd, the Swiss-based meet has attracted some high-profile talent in the past and 2022 is not different.
From the French team, the swimmers of Jordan Pothain, Charlotte Bonnet, Damien Joly and David Aubry are among the entrants, while Russia is expected to have representation in the form of France-based athletes Anna Egorova and Anastasia Kirpichnikova.
Kirpichnikova especially is coming off of a successful 2021, having most recently secured 800m freestyle silver at the 2021 FINA Short Course World Championships in Abu Dhabi. Prior to that meet, Kirpichnikova snagged 800m and 1500m free silver at the European Championships, while also crushing a menacing 400m/800m/1500m treble gold at last year’s European Short Course Championships.
From the home team, history-making Olympic medalists from Tokyo Jeremy Desplanches and Noe Ponti are entered, joined by teammate Roman Mityukov.
Finally, on the Italian front, Elena di Liddo, Fabio Scozzoli, Martina Carraro, Nicolo Martinenghi, Matteo Rivolta and Margherita Panziera are among those headed to Switzerland this weekend.
Will this be livestreamed?
