Loudoun Valley High School junior Sean Conway has announced his verbal commitment to in-state University of Virginia for 2019-20. He will join a class of 2023 that also includes verbal commits Henry Schutte, Jack Walker, Jack Wright, and Max Edwards.
“I chose Virginia because of their top-notch academics, and unrivaled enthusiasm the Coaching Staff brings to the pool deck. Can’t wait to be part of such an awesome team, Go Hoos!”
Conway is the VHSL 4A record-holder in the 200 IM (1:47.22) and 100 free (44.54) and has won 5 individual Virginia 4A titles competing in four different events during his three years of high school swimming. At the 2018 VHSL 4A Championships in February, he broke both the 200 IM and 100 free records in prelims and again in finals; he then lowered the 100 free record leading off the Loudoun Valley 400 free relay. As a sophomore he won the 200 IM (1:48.70) and 500 free (4:32.42), and as a freshman he was first in the 500 free (4:36.45) and fourth in the 100 back (52.46).
Conway swims year-round for Nation’s Capital Swim Club. He shows great versatility and has an impressive range, excelling from the 50s to the 500. At U.S. Nationals in December, he went best times leading off NCAP’s 200 medley relay and 800 free relay, and individually in the 200 IM (he placed 12th), 400 IM (8th), and 200 back (12th). He also finished 23rd in the 100 back and swam a leg on NCAP’s 400 free relay.
Last weekend, Conway won the 200 IM, was third in the 400 IM, and placed fifth in the 200 back at NCSA Spring Championship. He was also 13th in the 200 free, 13th in the 100 back, 3rd in the 100 IM, contributed to NCAP’s winning 400 free relay, and led off the 4th-place 200 medley relay.
Conway will be able to slot into a number of areas for the Cavaliers, and is already within ACC Championships scoring range in the 400 IM (B final) and 200 back (C final). His top SCY times include:
- 200 IM – 1:46.95
- 400 IM – 3:49.60
- 50 back – 23.12
- 100 back – 49.30
- 200 back – 1:43.54
- 100 free – 44.54
- 200 free – 1:37.93
- 500 free – 4:28.92

Congrats to Robbie on his part in developing such a talented, well-rounded athlete.
Congrats Sean and to all the new Hoos! It’s electric and fun at UVA.
Don’t blink, or you’ll open your eyes to UVA winning a national title. Great to see another good get for the hoos
How are there negative comments to the above – all them haters. I agree WAHOOWA!!
Go Hoos
Yep NC State will have a good ACC challenge in the next 2-3 years
Conway was just named the Wash Post All-Met swimmer of the year. UVA has always struggled to recruit the biggest stars from the DC Metro area. With Casey Storch (1:47 / 3:46 IM) coming in class of ’18 and Conway coming in the next (and Cuomo and Donohoe coming on the women’s side) . . . that trend is changing. Big time.
congrats, sean!
Congrats Sean!!
Absolutely monster class. Made you look, Fenwick!
