Ashlyn Schoof, number 7 on our list of top 20 recruits for the high school class of 2017, has made a verbal commitment to swim for University of Louisville next fall.
“Louisville has such a great team culture. That is the thing that really attracted me to them. Their values are very similar to mine and I felt like family when I was with them. They have an all-around great program and I am so blessed and excited to be a part of Louisville swimming!”
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and attend school at the University of Louisville! GO CARDS!❤️⚜️???? @swimswamnews pic.twitter.com/OULhnfxcWK

Schoof is a senior at Muskego High School in Muskego, Wisconsin, although she does not compete for her high school. Swimming for Schroeder YMCA Swim Team, Schoof competed in the 100m back and 200m back at Olympic Trials at the beginning of the summer and again at Speedo Junior Nationals at the end of the summer, where she also swam the 50m free and 100 fly. After Juniors she joined Elmbrook Swim Club.
Schoof is one of only 21 18-and-under girls ever to have broken the 52.00 barrier in the 100 yard backstroke. If she can repeat, and even improve on her best 100 back, Schoof will be in contention for the title at ACC Championships as a freshman. She will also add firepower to Louisville’s medley relays at a minimum; her best 100 back time would have taken about .8 off the Cards’ time, which in the 4×100 would have earned them an ACC title and gotten them a little closer to event-winner Stanford at NCAAs.
Schoof’s best times are:
SCY | LCM | |
50 back | 24.56 | 29.40 |
100 back | 51.98 | 1:02.58 |
200 back | 1:54.35 | 2:15.85 |
100 fly | 54.46 | 1:02.14 |
200 fly | 2:00.65 | 2:16.91 |
50 free | 23.26 | 26.91 |
100 free | 50.40 | 57.50 |
200 free | 1:47.76 | 2:04.34 |

Congratulations Ashlyn!! So proud of you!
Congratulations Ashlyn!
This article is riddled with errors. Louisville is in the ACC and her best 100 back, which is very good for a rising senior in high school, would have been 4th at ACCs and if done in a relay, would have placed her team 3rd after the back. Courtney Bartholomew UVA and Alexia Zevnik NC State would have beaten her to the wall in the relay.
^Not riddled with errors at all.
“Schoof will be in contention for the title”. Key word is contention, not guarantee. Bartholomew is out, so only 2 women were faster than her current best time (out of HIGH SCHOOL). Oh, and Arthur knows a little something about coaching. Don’t look for every opportunity to shoot a young woman and part-time journalist down; it’s unbecoming.
Mea culpa. While I love being called “young” (which I was, once), I made one mistake: the second time I wrote “ACC” it came out “SEC.” On the other hand, my point with the .8 advantage she would have given the relay was not that she’d have come to the wall before Bartholomew and Zevnik, but that the relay would have been .8 faster. Hence my edit to make that more clear.
51.98 is darn fast for a hs junior. Bartholomew graduated.
I realize that Bartholomew has graduated. The comments were directed at the original article which has been edited since it was originally posted.
Before everyone down votes him and makes ignorant comments- this article has been edited since you have seen this comment.
“Didn’t swim for her high school…” and still swam fast. Great job, best of luck at UL!
Lol?
