A massive 7 meet records bit the dust on day 2 of the British Universities & Colleges Sport Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield tonight. Defending overall champions, Loughborough University, stand atop the point total through 2 days of competition, having reaped 197 points so far over Edinburgh and Stirling who sit in 2nd and 3rd with 155 and 128 points, respectively.
British national record holder Jocelyn Ulyett got the job done in the women’s 200m breaststroke race, clocking 2:26.26 for a new BUCS record. The 22-year-old Loughborough swimmer beat the field by over 3 seconds and crushed her own championship record of 2:27.25 from 2017.
Loughborough’s James Wilby also scored points in the breaststroke discipline, taking the 50m sprint in 27.54 for a new BUCS Record. Commonwealth Games-bound Wilby was the only competitor of the field to dip under the 28-second threshold in the race. Wilby also scored a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke later in the meet, stopping the clock at 2:12.24 to win by almost 4 seconds.
Isle of Man’s Charlotte Atkinson, who competes for Loughborough, made it happen in the 100m butterfly, earning a new BUCS Record in 58.18. That overtook the previous record of Rachael Kelly at 58.25 set in 2015. Runner-up in tonight’s 100m butterfly was Edinburgh’s Tain Bruce, who finished in 58.93. That mark signifies not only a personal best, but a shiny new Scottish National Record for the 19-year-old.
Stirling made some noise for both the women’s and men’s, with Kathleen Dawson rocking a new BUCS Record in the 50m backstroke, touching in 28.32 to beat Edinburgh’s Lucy Hope by just .10. Dawson’s Stirling teammate and double Olympic silver medalist Duncan Scott broke the BUCS Record in the men’s 200m freestyle, notching a solid 1:48.27 to surpass the meet record of 1:48.45 that has stood since 2009.
The Stirling men also re-wrote history in the 4x100m freestyle relay, throwing down a winning time of 3:21.12, helped by Scott’s opening 49.34 lead-off. The previous record of 3:22.13 held by Bath was set way back in 2008.
Additional Winners on the Day:

7 record breaking swims. 6 get a paragraph each. Luke Greenbank gets a mention in a sentence about another swimmer in ‘Additional winners of the day’
Ulyett spent time in Teneriffe in January with The University Of Edinburgh on their camp and worked with Rollason. Good to see coaches and programs working together not against each other.
