Para Pan Pacs: Day 2 Finals Preview

We are getting ready to start the final session of Day Two of the Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships in Pasadena, California. There should be a lot of great racing tonight, including:

MEN’S 200-METER FREESTYLE:

  • After last night’s final, Daniel Dias and Roy Perkins will be racing again in the S5 200m Freestyle. Dias is the current world record holder with a 2:26.51 from World Championships in 2010. Roy Perkins is seeded 10 seconds behind Dias going into finals, but don’t be surprised if we see Perkins have a substantial time drop.
  • Daniel Fox of Australia is seeded first going into tonight’s S14 200m Freestyle at a 1:59.05. Fox is the current world record holder with a record a time of 1:57.16. Seeded second and third in tonight’s race will be Dalton Boon of Canada at a 2:03.93 and Mitchell Kilduff of Australia at a 2:04.06. It will be race to the finish for silver and bronze between Boon and Kilduff.

WOMEN’S 400-METER FREESTYLE:

  • The women’s S7 field has a tight competition between American swimmers, Leanne Smith, Cortney Jordan and Rebecca Dubber of New Zealand. Jordan is seeded first going into finals with a time of 5:37.35, with Dubber right behind her with a time of 5:38.00. Smith is seeded third going into tonight’s finals with a time of 5:40.31. This should be an exciting race to see who will come out on top.
  • In the women’s S8 race, Jessica Long, the current world record holder with a time of 4:42.28 is seeded first well ahead of the two young Australian’s, Maddison Elliott and Lakeisha Patterson who will make it an exciting finish for silver.
  • Following this morning’s, world record swim, Rebecca Meyers is seeded first in the S13 field and will be looking to better her record setting performance this evening, after finishing with a prelim time 4:25.31.

WOMEN’S 50-METER BUTTERFLY:

  • In the S7 race, Nikita Howarth of New Zealand, Brianna Nelson of Canada and American Cortney Jordan will provide an exciting finish with their prelim times all within less than a second.

MEN’S 100-METER BUTTERFLY:

  • In the highly contested S10 class, Andre Brasil, the current world record holder with a time of 55.99 will look to bring home gold, but not without some stiff competition from the Canadians, Alec Elliot and Nathan Stein. All three swimmers finished prelims under a 1:00.00 with Andre Brasil seeded first at a 57.76.
  • Finishing off the Men’s 100m Butterfly, the S11 class will feature a tight race between Brad Snyder of the United States and Keiichi Kimura of Japan. Although Snyder finished three seconds ahead of Kimura in prelims with a time of 1:05.43, we expect the race this evening to be an exciting one for gold.

MEN’S 50-METER FREESTYLE:

  • While Daniel Dias of Brazil is looking to have another strong performance in Day 2 following his world record last night, Roy Perkins of the United States will do everything he can to compete for the top spot. This should prove to be another exciting race between Daniel Dias and Roy Perkins.
  • In the S7 men’s class, Matthey Levy of Australia will be looking to set a new world record following his prelim time of a 28.34, with the current record set at a 27.67 and has been held since 2008.
  • Australians Rowan Crothers and Matthew Cowdrey, along with Takuro Yamada of Japan will be going after the S9 world record of a 25.13 after their prelim times of a 26.16, 26.22 and 26.83 respectively. Look for this to be an exciting finish.
  • In one of the most heavily contested races of the evening, the men’s S10 race will have a number of athletes vying for the top three spots. With Phelipe Rodrigues of Brazil seeded first with a time of 23.86, he will be heavily sought after by fellow countryman, Andre Brasil, Andrew Pesterfield of Australia, Nathan Stein of Canada and Ian Silverman of the United States. Make sure to tune in for live result from this highly contested race!!

With five world records already broken through the first day and a half, we are looking forward to several more records being broken in what should be an exciting evening of races in sunny Pasadena, CA.
