After missing the world record (his own) in the men’s 200m free S5 on Thursday by .21 with a 2:26.72 in finals, Brazilian Daniel Dias came back and broke the world record in the 50 free S5. Dias swam a 31.94 in finals to lower the 32.05 mark he had set in London in 2012.
Coming into the Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships, Dias held the S5 world records in: 50m free (32.05); 100m free (1:08.39); 200m free (2:26.51); 50m back (34.99); 100m back (1:16.40); 100m breast (1:32.27); 50m fly (34.15); 100m fly (1:17.79); and 200m IM (2:48.92).
