Kevin Cordes led the way in prelims with a new US Open and US Nationals record of 2:07.86. In finals he was off that mark, but was still fast enough for gold putting up a 2:09.48.

Conor Dwyer finished second in the 200m freestyle last night to Matt McLean with a time of 1:47.35. That swim earned him a spot on a second relay after earning himself a position on the 4×100 free earlier in the meet.

Thanks for these great photos! I was just wondering if anybody got one of Aaron Peirsol giving the medal to Ryan Murphy, because Ryan looks like he’s going to become the Backstroke King of the next generation, as Aaron was for his own.
You’re right. But at the same time I’m tired to say “Ryan Murphy the future US backstroke star”. I believe I say that for at least 4 years now! I remember writing on swimswam he would win both backstroke olympic gold medals in 2016. He will peak in 2016. We are in 2014. It’s time for him to take the power! His first qualification the other day in the 200 back was a good first step. He has the 100 back today. He knows what he has to do.
