New Zealand swimmer Lauren Boyle, racing this week at the Wellington Winter Championships just a few weeks after her Commonwealth Games Gold in the 400 free, has broken the World Record in the women’s 1500 short course meter freestyle on Saturday.
While this minor meet was mostly intended as a Pan Pacs tuneup, Boyle took advantage of her time in the water and her particular level of rest to go 15:22.68. That improves the old record by more than four seconds, breaking the 15:26.95 that Spain’s MIreia Belmonte-Garcia swam at the Spanish Championships last November.
Now she will move on to Gold Coast, Australia where she will challenge the long course 1500 World Record holder, American Katie Ledecky.

Men’s 400m Freestyle (25m)

Awesome swim for the Kiwi! Anyone know the last time a Kiwi every set a WR, either SC or LCM?
Im not sure its been done, unless Danyon Loader did but i dont think so.
There was only 4 people in the race and the next swimmer was 1minute behind her!! An especially good race considering the pool it was swam in
Wonder what this is going to do with Katie’s ferocity? I wouldn’t want to be Lauren. I think there may be a target on her back, now.
