Georgia Bulldogs release 2014-2015 schedule with uncertain coaching status in title defense

The Georgia Bulldogs have released their swimming & diving schedules for the 2014-2015 season, where the lady Bulldogs will go for their third consecutive NCAA title.

The team’s Halloween dual meet with SEC rivals Florida is one of the more notable meets on the schedule. Georgia will host the Gators on Halloween day, October 31st, in Athens.

Just two weekends earlier, the Bulldogs will make a swing through North Carolina, hitting the UNC Tar Heels on Friday, October 17 and the fast-rising NC State Wolfpack crew on Saturday.

A couple other notable meets – the ‘Dogs open their co-ed season facing Alabama at home on October 10th. That’s the first men’s meet, though the women compete against Vanderbilt in late September. Georgia will once again host a mid-season invite, the Georgia Invite on December 5-7. The divers will compete at the Tennessee Diving Invite in January.

Georgia’s second semester will be highlighted by duals with Texas and Tennessee. Georgia will host Texas a year after heading to Austin – that rematch is January 10th. They’ll dual Tennessee two weeks later on January 24th on the road.

That dual lineup means the Georgia men will get to see the two biggest-name freshmen in the NCAA – Bolles School teammates Caeleb Dressel and Joseph Schooling were essentially prospects 1 and 1A last recruiting season. Dressel will come to town with Florida in the fall while Schooling rides in with Texas in January.

This season will at least start with some level of uncertainty on the coaching front. The Bulldogs finished out last year with assistant Harvey Humphries as acting head coach after longtime program director Jack Bauerle was suspended midseason. Humphries is still the acting head coach, while Bauerle continues to have his name and picture listed on the Bulldogs website with no official title. Bauerle was suspended indefinitely for “severe breach of contract” in April after an investigation into an athlete’s academic eligibility.

The co-ed SEC Championships are slated to be held in Auburn, Alabama starting February 17th. The women won’t travel too far for NCAAs, heading to Greensboro, North Carolina, while the men will travel to Iowa City, Iowa.

The Bulldog women are led by double-NCAA champion Brittany Maclean, who looks to rekindle her rivalry with Cal’s Missy Franklin. The men still have two more years left with versatile phenom Chase Kalisz, the NCAA record-holder in the 400 IM.
