China’s Yu Hexin has re-broken his own Junior World Record in the boys’ 50 meter freestyle, though he just missed becoming the second junior swimmer under 22 seconds.
Yu swam a 22.00 to win the final, beating out Brazil’s Matheus Santana (22.43) and Trinidad & Tobago’s Dylan Carter (22.53) for the Youth Olympics gold.
That sets up a very interesting 100 freestyle final. Santana and Carter are much better in the 100 than in the 50, and Yu is very good in both races, so despite the absence of Caeleb Dressel and Evgeny Sedov, that could still be one of the best events of this meet.
Yu broke his own record with this swim after going a 22.01 in the semi-finals. Sedov still has the best time in the qualifying age groups thanks to a 21.98 done just a few days before FINA started recognizing Junior World Records. Sedov also had the official Junior World Record coming into the meet with a 22.07.
The Chinese are coming in Men’s sprinting! Two good examples: This guy (22.00 in the 50 free, after a 22.01 in semis). The 100 Fly winner in this meet (52.94, after swimming fast enough I semis to be lane 4 for the finals).
We were all expecting it !! Congratulations !!!
Shen Duo and Qiu Yuhan also superb !!
Magnific performance by the team, no idea about what can happen in Asia Games!! The sky is the limit for chinese swimmers !!
Now I am rooting for Santana and not Yu Hexin in 100F . The brazilians fans, specially Rafael, deserve a golden medal…. China has already many of them, let the others also celebrate !! Go, Santana !!!!
