Eryn Eddy Verbally Commits to Virginia Cavaliers

Eryn Eddy from Loveland, Colorado has verbally committed to the Virginia Cavaliers, according to an article in her hometown Reporter-Herald.

Eddy is the defending Colorado 4A (smaller schools) State Champion in the 200 free (1:48.89) and 500 free (4:56.03).

Those times, however, aren’t even close to the bests that she did as a sophomore. In yards, she’s been:

  • 50 free – 23.86
  • 100 free – 50.40
  • 200 free – 1:46.81
  • 500 free – 4:46.60
  • 1650 free – 16:27.26

She’s also a potential star in long course – at the 2014 Junior National Championships, she finished 5th in the 200 free in 2:00.78, which put her within a second of the champion Stanzi Moseley.

Though Virginia has gone through a coaching change since Mark Bernardino left, they still have shown great success with their middle-distance and distance swimmers. Specifically, they were 5th at the NCAA Championships in the 800 free relay, which included Leah Smith: who placed 3rd individually in the 1500 free at NCAA’s; had the third-best time in the country (out of the B-Final) in the 500 free; and was 17th in the 200 free.

Smith went on to have a fantastic summer as well, making the U.S. National Team, Pan Pacs Team, and qualifying for the 2015 World Championship team in the 800 free relay. That success in both short course and long course has to be enticing to a swimmer like Eddy, who has very similar specialties as Smith.

Eddy also placed in the top 8 in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles at Winter Junior Nationals in 2013.

The Loveland Swim Club girls are committing early this fall: Eddy’s teammate Brooke Hansen has pledged her future to Texas.
