Rhode Island Swimming and Diving Releases 2014-15 Meet Schedule

Seven home meets, a first-opponent, and two meets against defending conference champions highlight the 2014-15 Rhode Island women’s swimming and diving schedule, released by head coach Mick Westkott.

The Rams open the season with an unscored meet at the University of Connecticut Quad Meet on October 18. Rhode Island will face the Huskies, Central Connecticut, and Yale. It will be the first time that the Bulldogs and Rams share the same pool.

The Rams are coming off a seventh place finish at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships, They officially open the season with a home meet against Maine on Friday, October 24.

“The meet with the University of Maine is always a great way to open our home schedule,” said Westkott. “We always seem to have a close meet with the Black Bears.”

Following the season opener, the Rams will host Division III powers Springfield College and Coast Guard Academy, on November 1, in the Ed Golden Invitational. On November 8, Rhode Island heads north to take on defending American East champion New Hampshire. Upon returning to the Ocean State, the Rams will head up Route 95 to take on Providence in the fifth Annual Pink Out meet, raising awareness for breast cancer.

Following the clash with the Friars, URI will host five teams (Assumption, Bryant, Holy Cross, Maine, and Providence) in the Harold Anderson Invitational on November 21-22.

“[The Harold Anderson Invitational] is an important meet for us,” Westkott said. “We do a little extra to swim fast and dive well; We want to use this opportunity to recognize Mr. Anderson as one of the major contributors to the program and our meet official for 25 years.”

The Rams will end the first half of the season against Bryant University on December 6.

Coming out of the holiday break, the Rams will battle perennial A-10 champions Richmond in Sarasota, Fla. on January 3, before returning home to host George Washington and Massachusetts in the Rhode Island Invitational on January 9-10. Rhody wraps up the homestand with a 1:00 p.m. meet against Wagner on January 17.

The Rams will then hit the road on January 24 to Burlington, Vt. to take on the Vermont Catamounts before ending the regular season at the UConn Invitational on February 7.

The Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio will play host to the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championships. The Atlantic 10 meet will be held from February 18 through February 21.
