Alexandra Buscher from Memorial High School and the Dads Club Swim Team in Houston, Texas has verbally committed to the Texas A&M Aggies about 90-minute northwest, her coaches confirmed on Thursday.
Buscher is primarily a freestyler, with yards bests of:
- 50 free – 23.90
- 100 free – 50.32
- 200 free – 1:47.07
- 500 free – 4:50.55
- 100 fly – 55.98
She’s among the increasingly-popular “tweener freestylers” that are developing around the country, especially on the women’s side, who specialize in the 100-500 freestyles, but don’t extend too far to the 1000, 1650, or 50.
Buscher is also exactly what the Aggies need to keep building depth to solidify the long-term health of their freestyle group, and as a freshman she should fight at least for a spot on the 800 free relay immediately, if not the 400 as well.
Out of the 8 swims on the Aggies’ 400 and 800 free relays at NCAA’s last year, 7 will be graduated by the time Buscher’s first potential SEC and NCAA Championship meets roll around, so that near-complete refresh should leave her plenty of opportunities to contribute immediately.
Buscher will join fellow class of 2015 commits Lexie Lupton and Claire Rasmus in the Aggies’ freestyle group. Buscher is the defending Texas 5A (big school) state champion in the 200 free and placed runner-up to future teammate Lupton in the 100 free last season.
She had an impressive 2:02.26 LCM 200 Free at Jr Pan Pacs this summer swimming for Canada.
