With Ning Zetao Out Yu Hexin Takes Men’s 50 Freestyle

According to xinhuanet.com a day after Ning Zetao set a new national record in the 100 freestyle the Chinese star had to refrain from competing due to a sudden illness. Ning won the 100 freestyle in a time of 47.65 half a second ahead of the rest of the field. 

The news agency reported that a fever and digestive issues kept him out of the pool.

Ning was set to swim the 50 freestyle on the final day of competition. He holds the Chinese record in the 50 freestyle having posted a 21.91 last fall.

With Ning sidelined that left the door open for Youth Olympic Games star Yu Hexin to take the national title. Yu won the event in a time of 22.54, “I swam very slowly today because I participated too many competition this year and feel very tired,” Yu told xinhuanet.com.

At the Youth Olympic Games Yu took home gold in both the 50 freestyle and the 50 butterfly along with two more gold in the mixed relay events. In his win in the 50 freestyle he set a new junior world record touching in a time of 22.00.

Zhu Menghui took the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 25.31.

Wang Yaxin took the women’s 400 IM in a time of 4:44.47 while Huang Chaosheng won the men’s 200 breaststroke touching in a time of 2:11.68.
