Durden Talks Veterans, Youngsters, and Team’s Success at Home After Hawaii Win

In the above video, Dave Durden, the head coach of the Cal men’s swimming & diving teams, talks about how he feels about the team’s success in the early-going as they look to defend their NCAA team title.

He specifically discusses how he doesn’t try and shoulder his swimmers with big expectations early in their careers or force them to take on an undue load. He says that the freshmen have all done plenty to impress him, and that he instead tries to get them to focus on their race, and “how they move through the water.”

The Cal men won a dual meet against Hawaii on Friday to move to 2-0 on the season. Read more about that meet here.

Very interesting tidbit. My two favorite parts of the meet was watching Katis swim the 50 free and the team giving Ryan Kao a friendly “boo” before and after his 500 swim. Hope the freshmen are adjusting well!
