Jon Burkett from Shawnee High School and the Jersey Wahoos in New Jersey has verbally committed to the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
Burkett, who committed before the team’s big win against Georgia over the weekend, finished in the top four in both the 100 and 200 meter butterflies at this summer’s NCSA Junior National Championships.
In yards, his best times include matching 49.60’s in the 100 backstroke and 100 fly, plus a 1:51.42 in the 200 yard fly.
He also split as fast as a 21.95 on the fly leg of Shawnee High School’s 200 medley relay.
Burkett is on the younger end of the class, and in March of his junior year he swam the above-mentioned backstroke time of 49.60 that puts him among the top 100 15-16’s of all-time. He’s been a good butterflier for much of his career, but as a sophomore and junior specifically he improved five and three seconds, respectively.

Jon is my best friend, he’s always the first to find me and give me a hug after a great race. I love him so much and I’m so proud of his choice. My little Wolfy is all grown up 🙂
