North Carolina Aquatic Club’s Julie Hu has made a verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut Huskies for 2015-16.
A senior at Panther Creek High School in Cary North Carolina, Hu was a four-time state finalist at the 2014 North Carolina High school 4A State Championships. She made consolation finals in the 200 IM and 100 breast and was a member of Panther Creek’s 200 medley and 200 free relays.
“I choose UCONN because of the high end academics (especially for the actuarial science program) and the amazing family-like atmosphere the swim team showed. I cannot wait to be a Husky next year!”
In long course season, Hu competed at her first Junior Nationals in Irvine this past summer. She swam both the 100m and 200m breast and picked up a best time in the 100.
100y breast: 1:05.55 100m breast 1:13.32
200y breast: 2:21.64 200m breast: 2:38.32
200y IM: 2:09.26 200m IM: 2:24.91
400y IM: 4:31.32 400m IM: 5:09.26
In the recent NCAC Quad Meet, Hu swam her best non-rested 100/200 breast and 200 IM by a significant margin (going 1:06.9/2:22.3, and 2:10.0).
Hu will join a solid group of young UConn breaststrokers; last year at AAC Championships, the Huskies placed two freshmen and two sophomores in the B-final of the 100 breast and two sophomores in the B-final of the 200. Hu’s times would have put her smack in the middle of both finals.
