McGill Lone American Representative at Stockholm World Cup Stop

The Start Lists are now posted for the Stockholm World Cup stop that will begin on Saturday, October 15th in Sweden.

For full start lists, click here (as of October 7th).

The highlights of the meet will be the Australians, including Geoff Huegill, Kenneth To, Rachel Goh, Belinda Hocking, Matthew Abood, Angie Bainbridge, and Eamon Sullivan. Ian Thorpe and Libby Trickett won’t join the tour until the Asian Swing that begins in November.

The lone American entered in this stop is Tyler McGill, the 2011 World Championships bronze medalist in the 100 fly. USA Swimming sent a slightly larger contingent to this meet last year, but at the time it was later in the season. McGill will swim the 50/100 fly, the 50 free, and the 100 IM to really focus on his sprinting early in the season.

The lineup has significantly ramped up in depth since the last meet in Dubai. Chad le Clos, the points leader on the men’s side, will be in attendance again, though Daryna Zevina, his female counterpart, will not. Hungary will send a solid contingent including Szusanna Jakabos, Evelyn Verraszto, and David Verraszto. Norway’s Alex Hetland and 100 breaststroke World Champion Alexander Dale Oen will support their Scandanavian compadres with appearances as well.

Paul Biedermann, Marco Koch, and a good German group will be there too. Biedermann should have a great battle in the 400 free with Pal Joensen of the Faroe Islands.

Canada’s Chantal van Landeghem, who recently made her college committment to Georgia, will look to prove her short course mettle at the meet.

And of course, the majority of the Swedish National Team will be on hand, including defending series champion Therese Alshammar, 100 fly World Record holder Sarah Sjostrom, and 2000 Olympic Champion Lars Frolander.

Later this week, we’ll run a full preview of the competition in Stockholm.

When Missy Franklin and Michael Phelps swim, this is a big show, even this is in short course, even they are not shaved for the races, we can have big times.
