While on deck instruction during a workout is good and helpful the sessions in the endless pool actually showed me via video what i was doing wrong and then implemented drills to correct and change my stroke. The main advantage was during the 6 (1) hour sessions I did was to constantly review the video and make changes on the spot. Then after the session video was emailed to me and I shared it with my masters coach who then could review and help remind me of what I needed to do during… Read more »

Although it may not be the exact same environment, I would imagine you could still fix basic stroke technique. To your point of still water, the water is never still unless you are swimming completely by yourself. In a team practice there will be water getting thrown around in all directions with the amount of bodies in the water. In competition still water does not exist unless you are on a completely different pace than everybody else. This is why the smaller guys in sprint events better get out ahead because they will get thrown around by the waves the big guys produce.

I would love to read through any research – real research – that shows me how swimming in a current is the same as swimming through still water?

Feel for the water does not change from a pool to a flume, stroke mechanics are the same…this is a visual learning tool…”a picture is worth a thousand words”
