Miriyam Ghali, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has made a verbal commitment to Columbia for the 2015-16 season.*
Ghali is a student at Pine Crest School and swims for Pine Crest Swimming as well. She finaled in both the 100 fly and 100 back at the 2013 Florida Class 1A Championship Meet
Ghali’s top times over the last two seasons are:
50y back: 27.20 | 50m back: 31.41 |
100y back: 58.18 | 100m back: 1:08.27 |
100y fly: 57.03 | 100m fly: 1:05.85 |
50y free: 24.92 | 50m free 28.42 |
100y free: 53.31 | 100m free: 1:01.70 |
Ghali would have made the “C” finals at 2014 Ivy League Championships in both the 100 fly and 100 back. Columbia only put three swimmers out of 24 in each of those events. Ghali will have a good training group at Columbia, where the strongest group of performers at Ivies were only freshmen last year and will thus be juniors when she arrives.

*DISCLAIMER: Ghali has not yet been officially accepted to Columbia. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Columbia’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Decision candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Ghali is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support (her) application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2019.
