Thiago Pereira To Return To The United States In Order To Train With Dave Salo And Jon Urbanchek

Thiago Pereira will be returning to the United States to train with Dave Salo and Jon Urbanchek at the Trojan Swim Club in preparation for the 2015 Pan Am Games, 2015 Kazan World Championships, and 2016 Olympic Games which will be held in his home country of Brazil according to Brazilian swim blog: Blog Do Coach.

Coming off a rather disappointing 2014 which had him not earning a major international medal for the first time since 2009, Pereira chose to leave Brazilian national team coach AlbertoAlbertinho’ Silva.

Pereira previously trained with Dave Salo at the Trojan Swim Club from 2009-2011 before leaving to train in Brazil with coach Albertinho.

While there, Pereira was extremely successful, earning multiple international medals during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. At the 2010 Pan Pacs, Pereira took home bronze in both the 200 and 400 IMs. Following that performance, Pereira won six golds and two silvers at the 2011 Pan Am Games tying his record for the most gold medals won at one edition of the Pan Am Games.

Returning to the United States will put him in a great training environment with some of the world’s best breaststroke swimmers. Dave Salo, described by some as a breaststroke whisperer, will be great at adding some speed into Pereira’s training.

Throw coach Urbanchek into the mix and Pereira has the grounds of a coach with a great talent for producing top middle-distance swimmers. Urbanchek has a history of working with some of the best IM swimmers in history, including two time 400m IM Olympic silver medallist the late Eric Namesnik and two time 400m IM Olympic gold medallist Tom Dolan.

It seems as though the mix of the two coaches along with the training environment will be good for Pereira, who will be heading into his third Pan Am Games this summer in Toronto as one of the biggest forces in the pool.

Based on the date that Pan Am will take Place I doubt Pereira will swim it.. Probably will swim only Worlds.. If he goes for Pan Pacs he will tire himself and destroy his taper.. not couting the adaptation time..
