AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 11/12/2014

Between high school championship season, senior meets, and great age group swims, we had a hard time choosing the AgonSwim Weekly Wonders for November 7-9, 2014:

Ila Hughes, 17, Unattached (Kodiak Kingfishers): 50y free (23.20) – Swimming for Kodiak High School in the Alaska High School State Championship, Hughes won the 50 free with a new state record, and lowered her 2012 state record in the 100 free (50.51). The 50 was her lifetime best time by .16 and was .68 faster than at the same time last year. Hughes then went on to anchor KHS’s 200 free relay in 22.41, and the 400 free relay in 50.44.

Roger Woods, 16, Unattached (Voltage Aquatics): 100y free (45.92) – Woods broke the Idaho state record when he won the 100 free at the Idaho State High School Swimming Championships. The Hillcrest High School junior was also runner-up in the 50 free, and led off both Hillcrest’s free relays. Woods’ best 100 time coming into the meet was 48.29.

Dakota Topp, 13, California Capital Aquatics: 200y free (1:52.21) – Between prelims and finals Topp lopped 2.1 seconds off her seed time in the 200 free and finished third at the Terrapins Swim Team SCY Senior Circuit Meet. Topp’s other best times of the weekend were: 100/500 free, 100/200 back, and 200 fly.

Ben Olszewski, 17, Unattached (Arizona Gold Swimming): 500y free (4:21.48) – Swimming for Horizon High School at the Arizona State Division 1 Swimming & Diving Championships, Olszewski won the 500 free with a time that was *eleven* seconds faster than his previous best, and nearly 16 seconds faster than at last year’s state meet. Olszewski also place third in the 200 IM, improving his time by *fifteen* seconds.

Simon Lamar, 14, FAST Swim Team: 1650y free (15:30.92) – Lamar went his best time by 12 seconds and was 22 seconds ahead of last year’s pace when he won the men’s 1650 at the Kevin B. Perry Senior Invitational hosted by Southern California Swimming and FAST. Lamar also established new PBs in 100/500/1000 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM.

Elise Haan, 18, Unattached (T2 Aquatics): 100y back (52.60) – Swimming for Gulf Coast High School at the Florida High School Class 3A Championships, Haan won the 100 free and 100 back, and anchored both Gulf Coast’s free relays. Her 100 back time was her best by .43 and her first time under the 53-second mark. Haan also went her best 100 free time by a half-second (49.19).

Cassie Ward, 16, Aquatic Team Of Mecklenburg: 200y back (1:59.42) – Ward dipped under the 2-minute barrier for the first time, dropping more than 3 second off her PB, in prelims at the Triangle Aquatic Center Titans Big Southern Classic. She picked up new times in the 50 free, 50/100/200 back, 50 fly, and 200 IM.

Olivia Jack, 14, Unattached (Clifton Park-Halfmoon Piranhas): 100y breast (1:03.72) – A freshman at Scotia-Glenville High School in her first New York Girls Section II Division 2 Championships, Jack won both the 50 free (23.99) and 100 breast. Her 1:03.72 in the breast was her first-ever national cut.

Eli Fouts, 14, Rockville Montgomery Swim Club: 200y breast (2:09.08) – Swimming at Potomac Valley’s National Age Group Challenge, Fouts won both the boys 14 100 breast (58.48) and 200 breast (2:09.08), breaking Carsten Vissering’s meet records in each event (by .52 in the 100 and .72 in the 200).
