Alma vs Albion MEET RESULTS 2014
Albion had the top three swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke and 100 breaststroke and it was the wave of points from that depth that carried the Britons to a 161 ½ -101 ½ victory over Alma in a dual meet of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals.
First-year swimmers David Alday and Kyle Harvey were finished first and third, respectively, and sophomore Nick Deppner was the runner-up in the backstroke. Sophomore Derek Bosko led first-year swimmers Cam Ragan and Parker Belmore to the wall in the breaststroke.
Bosko also helped Albion take first-place points in the 200 freestyle relay and he finished second individually in the 200 free. Bosko was joined on the relay by Wes Boggs, Tom Martin and Lucas Harder.
Albion had the top two performers in the 1,650 freestyle and 50 breaststroke. Harvey won the distance freestyle by eight seconds over Andrew Mattson. Garret Bosworth was the winner of the breaststroke with Ragan coming in second.
Jacob Maurer earned first-place points in 1-meter diving and Sebastian Tostado tied for first place in the 50 freestyle.
Albion is idle until Dec. 5-6 when it swims in the Carthage (Wis.) College Invitational.
WOMEN – NOV 14 – Albion loses double dual at Hillsdale
Albion scored first place points in 3-meter diving and the 200-yard freestyle relay as it came up short in the team scoring against Hillsdale College (147-83) and Tiffin University (130-106).
Meghan Meader achieved a score of 174.15 in 3-meter diving. Abby Slager, Molly Blank, Alex Wilkins and Madi Vaive completed the relay in 1:43.61.
Vaive and Hailey Sambor finished third in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively.
Albion returns to the pool tomorrow, Nov. 15, when it challenges Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College at 1 o’clock.
MEN – NOV 14 – Albion men dunk Tiffin
Derek Bosko and Sebastian Tostado won a pair of individual events and swam on the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay and Nick Deppner was a part of both winning relays as Albion College defeated Tiffin University, 134-98, in a men’s swimming & diving dual meet.
Bosko won the sprint freestyle events, completing the 50 in 22.20 seconds and the 100 in 48.07. His winning margin in the 100 over the second-place swimmer from Tiffin was nearly four-tenths of a second.
Tostado won the 200 freestyle in 1:45.03 for a 2.2-second margin over the runner-up from Tiffin. Tostado beat the field in the 100 backstroke, completing the race in 53.8 seconds.
Bosko and Tostado were joined by Deppner and David Alday in the 200 freerelay. The Britons completed the race in 1:28.53 to eke out a victory over Tiffin by .11 seconds.
Deppner swam the final leg as Albion won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.01. Parker Belmore, Landon Lefler and Lucas Harder were the first three swimmers in the race. Harder and Lefler were the top two finishers in the 100 breaststroke. Harder achieved a time of 1:01.37 to finish nearly four seconds ahead of Lefler. Belmore was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly.
Albion also fielded the second-place team in the 200 medley relay. Nick Burris, Cam Ragan, Josh Boren and Nick Smith completed their race in 1:47.21.
Andrew Mattson and Kyle Harvey were the top two finishers in the 400 individual medley. Mattson’s winning time of 4:30.08 was good for a two-second margin of victory.
Albion returns to the pool tomorrow, Nov. 15, when it challenges Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College at 1 o’clock.
