WATCH: Regan Smith’s 3 NAG records from the Minnesota State High School Championships

12-year-old Regan Smith competed in her first high school state championships over the weekend, earning a pair of runner-up finishes individually for Lakeville North.

Smith also broke the 11-12 National Age Group records in the 100 fly and 100 back, plus broke the 50 back record while leading off Lakeville’s 200 medley relay.

So, if she is 12, how did she compete in a highschool state meet? usually in texas when your a freshman your 14 or 15. i’m curious not trying to doubt or be mean. that 100 fly was awesome.

A lot of places now have 7th graders in high school swimming.

Corey is correct. Minnesota is one of the states that permits junior high age swimmers to compete for their high school teams. We had several college teammates who had done so.

My daughter is a teammate of Smith’s. In Minnesota, 7th and 8th graders can compete on the high school team. Regan is a 7th grader currently.
